The katha is a ceremonial scarf that was used in Tibet and is still offered today to lamas, buddha statues and on special occasions. Traditionally white, kathas can also be in the colours representing the 5 natural elements and the 5 wisdoms. It represents a flower garland, because in Tibet, due to the altitude, flowers were rare. It is a sign of respect, gratitude and auspiciousness.
